About Us

Lusenhop Fine Art specializes in modern and contemporary American paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture. The gallery is known for its extensive inventory of art created by African-American artists working from the period of the Harlem Renaissance through the Black Arts Movement era. Lusenhop Fine Art publishes scholarly catalogues and participates in national art fairs.

David Lusenhop founded Lusenhop Fine Art in 1989 after leaving the Richmond Art Museum (Indiana) where he served as Assistant Director. Following thirteen years in Cincinnati, Ohio, Lusenhop relocated to Chicago where he directed Robert Henry Adams Fine Art from 2002 through 2006. From 2007 through 2010, he ran a public gallery space in downtown Chicago. Since 2010, Lusenhop Fine Art has operated from a private space in Chicago that is open by appointment.

David Lusenhop has served as curator, co-curator, or consultant for museum and public art center exhibitions including projects mounted at the Richmond Art Museum, the Cranbrook Academy of Art Museum, the Southern Ohio Museum, the Aronoff Center For the Arts, and Northwestern University. As an independent scholar and lecturer, recognized for his research on aspects of African-American art history, Lusenhop has presented papers and served on panels for institutions including the Cincinnati Art Museum, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the South Side Community Art Center, Northwestern University, and the Midwest Art History Society. He has been a guest on Chicago Public Radio and appeared in two Chicago Public Television short film documentaries on African-American artists.

David Lusenhop is active in the Chicago non-profit arts community and has been a committee member and fundraiser for organizations including the Art Institute of Chicago, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the South Side Community Art Center, and the Vivian G. Harsh Research Collection at the Woodson Regional branch of the Chicago Public Library.
